Cairo’s Fashion Nights

On January 18 PASHION magazine presented the third edition of CAIRO’S FASHION NIGHTS, co-hosted by French, Italian and Egyptian actress, model and filmmaker Elisa Sednaoui. Being a well known fixture on the international fashion scene, and the fact that Elisa is the descendant of the illustrious Sednaoui family who not only pioneered luxury retail in pre-1952 revolution Egypt but in all the Arab world, almost predestined her to be part of CFN3 , says Susan Sabet, PASHION’s publisher and editor in chief.

Over 40 participating designers and retailers filled the modern exhibition halls of the Pavillion, at the Semiramis InterContinental, off Cairo’s famous Tahrir square. From long established industry leaders such as Marie Bishara, to Mobaco, who donated 18 of the iconic camel logo polo shirt, to the students of the Fashion Design Center, who reworked the shirts into one-of-a-kind pieces. From steadily growing young fashion labels Amina K. and The Sahara Collection to the local queen of cocktail wear Malak El Ezzawy and CFN newcomers Nesma Helmy, Sarah Hegazy and Souad Abougabal who specialize in evening wear. Alexandria based design trio Threads, El Sastre tailor made shirts for men and women and the cool T-shirts by Unty rounded up the fashion hub. Accessories junkies were in for a treat at Ron’s bags and the wide selection of vintage shades at Vintage Style Lab. Those for a hang for ethnic and artisanal fashion didn’t miss out on locally handcrafted kaftans and accessories at Al Haramlek, Nevine Altmann ,Fair Trade Egypt, Yashmak and Tollie Designs. Jewelry lovers were in for a great treat with a wide selection of jewels from avant-garde SabryMarouf brand, Hollywood star favorite Dima Jewellery, Lina Chawky Jewellery, NourZen Accessories, RB by Rawya Barrada, Dido Embaby, Maja Soric and Mema Jewellery. Maison Yeya for bridal wear put on a picture perfect wedding scene, while behind the scenes PhotoBoutique captured “Pashion cover girls”, who were coiffed and made up by the professionals at AlSagheer Salons. At Villa Baboushka and 69 shopping was taken pretty serious, before guests moved on to discover the Azza Fahmy Design Studio and Coterique the new online shopping store while passing by the vintage pop-up store. The latest consultancy in town, Cairo’s Fashion Studio and Youssef Spahy of Face2Face Modelling agency, gave their professional advice. The silent charity auction saw VIP guests, led by HE. The Minister of Trade and Industry, HE. The Austrian Ambassador, movie stars Youssra and Khaled El Nabawy, bidding for donations by international luxury houses Albert Ferretti, Anya Hindmarch ,Bulgari, Calvin Klein, Chanel, Charlotte Olympia, Christian Louboutin, Diesel, Dima Jewellery, Fendi, Giorgio Armani, Louis Vuitton, Missoni, Muzungu Sisters, Trussardi, and Arab power houses Azza Fahmy, Dima Jewellery, Rami Al Ali and Reem Al Kanhal. A performance by artist Bousaina rocked the crowd who socialized enjoying canapés while sipping Valmont pink sparkling wine and Chivas Regal whiskey and ELyx Absolut vodka, amidst the shopping marathaon.
