A PASSION THAT DATES BACK TO 1900

Archive treasures meet the latest creations at Georges Sara’s new flagship store that opened at Arkan’s new extension in Cairo. A passion and legacy that started with Alfred Sara’s designing wallets in 1900 in Alexandria and five years later opening La Maison George Sara. The factory was the first of its kind in the Middle East and Africa. Following his father Alfred’s footsteps, Georges Sara earned a diploma in leather goods in Grenoble, France in1923. The creative designs sold at Alexandria’s Galeries Lafayette, Cicurel and Hannaux were quickly snapped up by Egypt’s elite and soon made it all the way to the royal family through the Queen’s dressmaker Monsieur Vassel making La Maison George Sara the official provider of leather products for the royal court of Egypt.

In 1973, Gisele Georges Sara’s husband Maher El Shayeb, joined the business and conceived a way to minimize the waste of genuine leather. Therefore, he started using Patch Work in accordance with the fashion of the period. Today, a century later,  the latest generation of El Shayeb are running the business. Sara in charge of design, Karim managing the business, follow in the footsteps of their family, maintaining a proud heritage and contributing to Egyptian fashion!
